England's World Cup preparations have been hit by a new injury worry after defender Stephen Warnock limped out of training on Thursday.
The Aston Villa left-back twisted his ankle during the session and is now doubtful for England's friendly against Japan in Graz on Sunday, a match in which he was likely to play some part as coach Fabio Capello chooses between him and Leighton Baines as Ashley Cole's deputy in the position.
Warnock's fitness will be assessed on Friday to see if he is able to take part in training.
Steven Gerrard also left training briefly causing consternation, but the Liverpool talisman returned to complete the session.
Sunderland striker Darren Bent is set to start against Japan in what will be his chance to push for inclusion in the final 23-man World Cup squad after recovering from the hamstring problem which kept him out of Monday night's 3-1 win over Mexico.
Chelsea stars John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole are also set to play, though Cole may start on the bench.
Tottenham defender Ledley King will sit the match out in order to protect his chronically problematic knees.
